General Secretary of Japan PONY and Asia Pacific Zone Director, Takeharu Nasu

For 15 years Takeharu Nasu has been involved in PONY’s Asia Pacific Zone. Nasu first joined PONY when his son started to play baseball. He quickly advanced through the different positions within Japan PONY. Nasu now holds the title General Secretary of Japan PONY and Asia Pacific Zone Director.

“I am honored to hold this position,” Nasu said. “My main goal is to meet new people and inform them on what PONY is.”

In the last year Nasu has traveled more than 150,000 miles in the Asia Pacific Zone. He wants to see PONY grow in countries who don’t see a lot of hope.

An example of an area where the children don’t see a lot of hope or even a future is the Marshall Islands. They are located in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of Japan and the Philippines.

“The children of the Marshall Islands do not see a future,” Nasu said. “The suicide rate on these islands are high. I want to bring support and help show the children that there is so much more out in the world. I want to help them aim to get off the island. I want to give them inspiration.”

For 2020 and beyond, Nasu wants to spread what PONY is and how amazing it is to be a part of it. He wants to raise team count and get more countries supporting him.

“I want to push PONY and get teams in the rural parts of countries to join,” Nasu said. “Take the rural parts of China or India for example, I want to get the villages in these parts of the country. PONY is an inspiration for the children. It shows them there is so much more out in the world. It becomes a distraction for them.”

PONY throughout Asia is very similar to Japan PONY Nasu claimed. PONY is strong in Japan therefore he wants Japan to be the example for the other countries.

“I am excited to be here and to learn how the board works,” Nasu said. “I cannot wait to see how far and how successful PONY will be in the Asia Pacific Zone in the years to come.”
