Day 2 Game Recaps of the 2024 Printscape PONY League World Series

GAME 3: TIJUANA, MEXICO 13 vs. BAY COUNTY, MI 0

Romeo Briones hit two home runs and drove in five as Tijuana, Mexico defeated Bay County, MI 13-0 on Saturday. Briones homered in the fourth and fifth innings.

Tijuana, Mexico got on the board in the top of the second inning after Alexander Jimenez hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Oliver Gutierrez singled, scoring one run, Eymos Bentancourt doubled, scoring one run, and Bryan Espinoza singled, scoring two runs.

A single by Gutierrez extended the Tijuana, Mexico lead to 6-0 in the top of the third inning.

Tijuana, Mexico scored six runs on five hits in the top of the fourth inning. Briones hit a grand slam to right field, Carlos Pardo doubled, scoring one run, and Santiago Retamoza doubled, scoring one run.

Tijuana, Mexico scored one run in the top of the fifth on a solo home run to right field by Briones.

Pardo pitched three innings in relief for Tijuana, Mexico. The righty allowed two hits and zero runs while, striking out five and walking two. Jimenez started on the hill for Tijuana, Mexico. The right-handed pitcher gave up zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking two. Jayden Perkins opened the game for Bay County, MI. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and six runs (four earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking one.

Tijuana, Mexico accumulated 13 hits in the game. Gutierrez and Espinoza each collected multiple hits for Tijuana, Mexico. Tijuana, Mexico turned one double play in the game. Tijuana, Mexico were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Marlon Melendrez Jr. had the most chances in the field with eight.

Chandler Bingham and Aaron Kain each collected one hit for Bay County, MI.

Tijuana, Mexico will play the Winner of Game Six on Monday, August 12, at 7:30pm. Bay County will play Gijon, Spain on Sunday August 11, at 5:00pm. 

GAME 4: BRONX, NY 11 vs. GIJON, SPAIN 0

Fausto Dominguez drove in four runs on two hits to lead Bronx, NY past Gijon, Spain 11-0 on Saturday. Dominguez singled in the third scoring two, hit a sacrifice fly in the first scoring one, and singled in the second scoring one.

Bronx, NY got on the board in the top of the first inning after Dominguez hit a sacrifice fly, Misael Acosta singled, and Yerimen Martinez was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run.

Bronx, NY added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Jeremias Perez doubled, Dominguez singled, and Acosta doubled, each scoring one run.

Bronx, NY extended their early lead with three runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI singles by Perez and Dominguez.

Jhanley Rodriguez earned the win for Bronx, NY. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and zero runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking none. Alex Morales took the loss for Gijon, Spain. The righty went two innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits, striking out two and walking one. Dominguez and Acosta each threw shutout innings for Bronx, NY in relief.

Bronx, NY collected 10 hits in the game. Acosta and Perez each collected three hits for Bronx, NY. Kendry Colon paced Bronx, NY with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Acosta stole two bases.

Petr Dusek and Carlos Gonzalez De La Fuente each collected one hit for Gijon, Spain.

Bronx, NY will play Washington County, PA on Sunday, August 11, at 12:00 pm. Gijon, Spain will play Bay County, MI on Sunday, August 11, at 5:00 pm. 

GAME 5: PALMVIEW, TX 2 vs. TAINAN CITY, CHINESE TAIPEI 4

Tainan City, Chinese Taipei were triumphant over Palmview, TX 4-2 on Saturday.

Tainan City, Chinese Taipei got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Wu Chieh-Jui singled, and Chen Hsuan-Chi grounded out, each scoring one run.

Axel Pulido homered to left field, which helped Palmview, TX tie the game at two in the top of the fourth.

Tainan City, Chinese Taipei took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Lin Shih-Wen drew a walk, scoring one run, to give Tainan City, Chinese Taipei the lead, 3-2.

Lin Liang-Kai led things off on the bump for Tainan City, Chinese Taipei. The starting pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one. Javier Garza led things off on the mound for Palmview, TX. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and two runs over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking one. Chieh-Jui, Chen Wei-Chun, Lin Wei-Chih, and Hsuan-Chi each came on in relief for Tainan City, Chinese Taipei and shutdown Palmview, TX.

Chieh-Jui, Chen Chin-Fu, and Chen Ching-Jung each collected one hit for Tainan City, Chinese Taipei. Chieh-Jui and Hsuan-Chi were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Tainan City, Chinese Taipei. Liang-Kai stole two bases.

Pulido led Palmview, TX with two runs batted in. They went 1-for-3 on the day. Ezra Gonzalez, Pulido, and Edgar Quintanilla each collected one hit for Palmview, TX. Quintanilla stole two bases. 

Tainan City, Chinese Taipei will play Guaynabo, Puerto Rico on Monday, August 12, at 4:30pm. Palmview, TX will play the Winner of Game Seven on Monday, August 12, at 10:00 am.
